Travel and Transport Info for Paksan, Laos by Hobo Maps - - - Home

Not much public transport available to get around the small town of Paksan so best to bring your own bike or vehicle. Distances are not great so you can get around by walking wth a decent map. Very few local people speak English.

Click to see our Paksan Map.

Some tuk-tuks are around but not many and they don't tend to roam around looking for passengers so you need to find places they wait at.

The local bus station near the traditional market has buses going to nearby places and to the north. We saw the schedule below at the station Dec. 2019 but it looked old and may not be reliable. There are no buses going south to Thakek, Savannakhet or Pakse from this bus station.

No Long Distance Bus Station - For regional and long distance buses most people just wait beside Highway 13S near the traditional market and Lao Development Bank for buses to come by, get on one that looks decent and pay on the bus. Many buses pass by with vacant seats and there's no need for buses to start trips from Paksan. No need for a long distance bus station and not able to make booking in advance. People should be able to get on a decent bus in less than an hour if going to places on Hwy 13S like Thakek, Savannakhet, Pakse or Vientiane.

Flag down Buses along Highway 13S - long distance buses coming thru Paksan are usually eager to stop most anywhere along Highway 13S to pick up passengers. But most don't have English signs showing their destination so it helps to make your own sign in English and Lao text to display. Just put the sign by your baggage and wait patiently but be ready to jump on a bus quickly as they always seem in a hurry.

A few signs in both English and Lao for common destinations going out from Paksan can be downloaded HERE and printed on A4 paper for display.
