Xe Katam 1 Dam Hydropower Info by Hobo Maps - Go Back to Hydropower Projects Web Page
Xe Katam 1 Hydropower project is sometimes also know as "Xe Namnoy 2-Xe Katam 1 Hydropower" project (such as in CDM filing for carbon-reduction credits).
Warning: There is much info on the web that is now not relevant and not accurate since it relates to a prior Xe Katam project that was cancelled. The prior project was designed to have a large reservoir and generate 81 MW of power capacity while the replacement project described below has a small river-like reservoir and only 15 MW capacity.
Also be careful not to confuse Xekatam Dam info on this web page with Xekaman Dams info on different web pages - both are in the same general area
Xe Katam 1 Hydropower project is also referred to as Xe Namnoy 2-Xe Katam 1 Hydropower project. The project is located on the main stream of Xe Nam Noy (river) and on the Xe Katam (river), Champasak Province in southern Lao PDR. The approximate coordinates of the project site are: 15°07'18.1"N 106°36'24.1"E ( 15.121700, 106.606700).

The installed capacity of the project is 15 MW with annual capacity of 83 GWh power able to be supplied to the power grid. The power generated is to be delivered to EDL through 22kV transmission lines.
The hydropower project cost US $49 million and has been operational since 2016.
The project includes a fixed weir, sand flush, intake structure, headrace channel, head tank, penstock, powerhouse with 2 units of turbines (2 x 7,500 kW) and a tailrace.

CDM Project
Xe Katam 1 Hydropower project has apparently qualified as a Clean Development Mechsnism (CDM) project under the Kyoto Protocol and may be entitled to receive carbon reduction credits. Average CO2 emission reductions over the crediting period from this project are estimated at 46,438 tons per year.
According to the CDM filing, the Xe Katam 1 Hydropower project construction did not result in displacement of residents or inundation of houses.
