Xe LaNong 1 (Selenong 1) Hydropower project is located in Savannakhet Province between Phin district and Nong district in the south of Lao PDR.
The project covers an area of almost 2,500 hectares in the Dong Phu Vieng National Protected Area.
Construction of the 70 megawatt Xe LaNong 1 dam began in 2017. Recent info is that it has completed 95% of construction and may be supplying electricity to Electrictie du Laos (EDL) by the middle of 2020 but we aren't sure as the pandemic may cause delays.
The US $150 million project is owned by four companies: China International Energy Development Corporation (YEIG) with a 70% stake, Dao Savanh (Laos) -15%, Electricite du Laos (10%) and China's Sunpaper Holding Lao with a 5% stake.
Daosavanh Company Ltd. is the project developer and their website link is - https://daosavanh.la/index.php/en/what-we-do/hydropower .
The power produced from the dam is intended for domestic consumption in Lao PDR.
The Project has a 25-year concession period from the date of opening of the power plant.
